Instagram has launched a new app called Threads which is camera first messaging app that helps users to connect with close friends.
Robby Stein, Director of product, Instagram has said that
Threads has a camera screen which is default when you open the app in which you take a photo, tap to choose to whom to send, and swipe up to send.
" Over the last few years, we've introduced several new ways to share visually on Instagram and connect with people you care about- from sharing everyday moments on Stories to visual message on Direct. But for your smaller circle of friends, we saw the need to stay connected throughout the day, so you can communicate what you're doing and how you're feeling through photos and videos. That's why we built Threads, a new way to message with close friends in a dedicated, private space."
Threads is a standalone app in which you can share photos, videos, messages, Stories to your close friend list. The user's are in control of who can reach you on Threads. You'll have dedicated inbox and notification for your close friends.

Here comes the last part of the Threads, that is the status screen where you can share your status which is seen by only your close friends list. Then you can tell Instagram how long to keep your status visible or you can opt for 'auto status' which is what Instagram wants. This option automatically refresh your status throughout the day.
Instagram says that it won't store your exact location, but rather uses the information to create context. It also added that the location information that is send to the server will not be stored. This information is stored in your device for short period of time. It is also deleted if you remove threads.
