STORY OF A MAN BEHIND INFOSYS PART III

By now you should have known Narayana Murthy's half story, how his life is, his well known people's influence in his life....

If you have not read the part I and part II story. I recommend you to read it to have a clear understanding of the story

Here comes the fun part or we can say interesting part of the story, where Narayana Murthy left his job to start a entrepreneurial journey with the money of 10,000 which was given by his wife.

Third chapter
Entrepreneurial journey

On a morning January 1981 when he thought of starting a company, he went and talked with his friends who worked with him in Patni Computers. He discussed to start a company to write software codes.

After six months of hardwork N.R. Narayana Murthy, Nandan Nilekani, N.S Raghavan, S. Gopalakrishnan, S.D Shibulal, K. Dinesh and Ashok Arora registered the company.

In 1982 they moved to Pune and bought a house on loan in which front room was used as office. At that time Sudha was their clerk cum cook cum programmer and also worked in Walchand group of companies....oh my god..

In 1983 when they got their first client Data Basics Corporation which is in United States, they moved to banglore but this time he moved without his wife and son. After that his friend Nandan Nilekani and his wife Rohini also moved to Bangalore and they used to live in Murthy's house.

During 1983 it was believed that the softwares for a company should be created in the same place. But Infosys was the first company which created software for a company miles away

Every team member gave their 100% and made the company more and more profitable. In late 80's there was joint venture between Infosys and Kurt Salmon Associates. But due to unfortunate circumstances the joint venture was collapsed in a very short span which put a big dent in the company. Everyone were shocked and left the company and the company was at verge of collapse. Even one of the co-founders Ashok Arora sold his shares to his partners.

Situation were very bad for the company at that time Narayana's courage and confidence helped them to come out of it. He told to his partners that "If you want to sell the shares and leave the company you happily do so and I will buy your shares. I will be running the company."

So what do you think happened partners decided to stay. Narayana has a talent for distribution of labour. Then he handled management, Nadan took care of the sales, Kris and Shibu handled the technical end, Raghavan for handling people and at last Dinesh for quality.

In 1999, the company has touched it's $ 100 million dollar revenue and also got listed in NASDAQ. Infosys was amongst the 20 biggest companies by market capitalisation. At the same time they also launched the Business consulting services. In 2002, the company marked their $500 million dollar revenue. Now Nandan takes the position of CEO and Narayana became the chairman and chief mentor of the company.

In 2011, he left the company and joined with his wife  to do philanthropic work and serves on the advisory boards of and councils of several institution like Cornell University, Ford Foundation, the UN Foundation. But Infosys has suffered his loss of activity in the company.

What can we learn from this story?
1. Every time you do something, there comes a opposition.
2. There is always a life test and life learning.
