Bharti Airtel which is an Indian telecommunication
service has reduced its calling ringer time to 25 sec why?
There is a reason for reducing the ringer time……no don’t
think that this is being done for the consumer’s benefit. It does not have
anything to do with the consumer’s. So let me rephrase it “There is a strategy
behind reducing the ringer time”…
Airtel has copied the concept from its competitor none
other than Jio. Then what is the concept and why it has to copy from Jio.
What
is the concept?
Before saying about the concept let me introduce you
to a new term which is probably know by telecom operators which is Inter-operator fee technically known as Interconnect Usage Charges (IUC).
IUC as the name suggest when a call is made from an telecom
operator A to telecom operator B. Then operator A has to pay some charges to
operator B which is in charge per minute. Now IUC charge is 6paise per minute.
Before Airtel had used to allow the ringing time as 40
sec. But Reliance Jio has reduced its call ringing time to 20-25 sec. For
example when a call is went from Reliance Jio user to Airtel user. Now Jio has
reduced its ringing time for outgoing calls. Within 20 sec of time the Airtel
user cannot pick up the call. So the call will be cut-off. Then by seeing the
missed the call the Airtel user will call back to Jio user.
Now what happened is what started as an outgoing call
has converted as an incoming call which makes Airtel to pay for the IUC
charges.
Currently the number of outgoing calls from Jio is
higher than Airtel. As a result, Jio pays more IUC charges to Airtel.
Now Vodafone has also reduced its call ringing time to
25 sec.
TRAI
conclusion
If all the Indian operators
were to upgrade their networks to 4G, then theses issue will be resolved
because the voice calls would be carried on the network as the data and there would
be no IUC charges. But currently Airtel has it legacy in 2G and 3G networks.
